Nguyen has extensive experience as counsel in international arbitrations under the SIAC, ICC, UNCITRAL, VIAC, GAFTA, SCMA and LMAA Rules. Selected matters include the following.

Construction, Infrastructure & Energy

• Government of Vietnam – ICC and UNCITRAL arbitrations concerning offshore petroleum operations, with an aggregate value in dispute exceeding USD 2.5 billion.
• Vietnamese oil and gas company – Singapore-seated ICC arbitration concerning tax-related claims with an amount in dispute exceeding USD 100 million.
• Vietnamese wind-power developer – Singapore-seated ICC arbitration arising from a major EPC project, involving claims and counterclaims exceeding USD 200 million.
• Vietnamese hydropower developer – VIAC arbitration arising from a FIDIC EPC/Turnkey project against a consortium of international contractors, with an amount in dispute exceeding USD 200 million.
• International contractor joint venture – disputes arising from a major donor-financed design-build-operate environmental infrastructure project in Vietnam, involving Dispute Board procedures, extension-of-time and additional-cost claims, design and regulatory approvals, site access, and expert delay and quantum evidence.
• Korean construction contractor – ICC arbitration arising from a FIDIC Red Book highway project in Vietnam.

Commercial, International Trade & Corporate Disputes

• Vietnamese shareholders – SIAC arbitration and related Vietnamese litigation against a NYSE-listed international pharmaceutical group arising from a shareholder and M&A dispute, with an amount in dispute exceeding USD 40 million.
• Major auditing firm – VIAC arbitration defending a professional-malpractice claim brought by a subsidiary of an international conglomerate.
• Vietnamese coal importer – LMAA and SCMA proceedings arising from international coal-sale and charterparty disputes.
• Vietnamese agricultural and commodity businesses – GAFTA, SIAC and other international arbitration proceedings concerning agricultural products and cross-border sale-of-goods transactions.
• Vietnamese shipbuilding companies – SIAC and London arbitrations concerning maritime equipment and shipbuilding contracts; co-counsel with K&L Gates.
• Vietnamese exporters – SIAC and ad hoc/UNCITRAL arbitrations concerning international sale-of-goods disputes.

As Arbitrator:

• Has served as sole arbitrator, presiding arbitrator and co-arbitrator in SIAC and VIAC proceedings. His appointments span construction, energy, finance, international trade, shareholder and other complex commercial disputes.
• Sole arbitrator in an SIAC arbitration seated in Singapore under the Expedited Procedure. Conducted a two-day evidentiary hearing and rendered a final award in a multi-million-dollar cross-border commercial dispute.
• His construction and engineering appointments include presiding and co-arbitrator roles in disputes involving FIDIC contracts, industrial facilities, renewable energy and engineering systems. Other appointments include commercial sale, cross-border finance and shareholder disputes.
